How the data works
Source: the AusTender OCDS API, Commonwealth of Australia, CC BY 3.0 AU. Commonwealth contract notices only, refreshed daily. Last built 17 October 2026.
Contracts are tagged by keyword and UNSPSC rules, not by a person. AI-adjacent includes Microsoft licensing, cloud and data platforms, so large licence deals weigh heavily. Values are notice values and can include options that are never taken up. End dates can move when a contract is amended. Hiring signals come from public job feeds of 83 employers (48 of 448 Australian roles are AI roles), a sample rather than the whole market.
Organisation-level data only. We never track named public servants.
Questions
Where does the data come from?
AusTender's public OCDS API, which publishes every Commonwealth contract notice. We have read 358,009 notices published since 17 January 2021 and refresh daily. Data is Commonwealth of Australia, CC BY 3.0 AU.
How do you decide what counts as AI?
Rules on keywords and UNSPSC codes. "Names AI" means the notice itself mentions AI, machine learning, generative AI, Copilot or GovAI. "AI-adjacent" means cloud, data platforms, Microsoft licensing and automation, where most AI work is bought. Labels are automated, not a human review, and every row links to its notice so you can check.
Are the values what was actually spent?
No. They are notice values, which can include options that are never exercised. End dates can also be extended by amendment. Treat them as signals, then read the notice.
Do you track individuals?
No. Spendari publishes organisation-level data only: agencies and suppliers, never named public servants.
Does it cover state governments?
Not yet. Commonwealth contracts only for now.
When does Pro open, and what if it isn't for me?
We'll email the waitlist when it opens. Founding members pay A$499 for the first year; there is nothing to pay until then, and you can cancel any time.
